  31. The remote side, according to them is: "A Cisco AS5100, which is 48 USR 28.8k 
  32. digital modems and 3 Cisco 2511 terminal servers in one box. They are fed 
  33. via two T1 digital lines." This is a university's facility for ppp access.

  35. My side is a ZyXEL 1496E attached to a Mac (home). When I have the speaker on, I
  36. do hear answer tones, but a connnection is never established.

  38. At work, I also have another ZyXEL 1496E attached to a HP 9000/735 unix
  39. box. This modem will connect successfully, but only at 2400 baud. I tried
  40. moving this modem to the home Mac, but still did not get a connection.

  42. At work, I also have a PowerMac with a Geoport modem. This will connect
  43. successfully at 14400 baud.

  45. The Zyxels and Geoport all easily talk to each other. The problem is only 
  46. when connecting to the university's USR modems.
